USD Announces New Football Coach

At a press conference in the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday afternoon, December 29, the University of San Diego will officially announce Dale Lindsey as the Toreros’ 13th head football coach, succeeding Ron Caragher who recently was hired as head coach at San Jose State University. Lindsey returned to USD’s coaching staff this past season as the Toreros’ Defensive Coordinator. Prior to his most recent position at USD, Lindsey was assistant head coach and linebackers coach at New Mexico State University. Lindsey brings a wealth of football experience as both a former NFL player and as a coach. His resume includes over 30 years of football coaching in high school, college and professional ranks. Most recently on the coaching staff of the Washington Redskins (2004-06), Lindsey also spent time on the San Diego Chargers staff as defensive coordinator (2002-03) and linebackers coach (1992-96). USD President Mary Lyons welcomed the next era in Torero football, building upon Coach Caragher’s impressive legacy, saying, “We are excited to have Dale Lindsey as our new head football coach. Dale’s experience and vision for our program match well with the university. We look forward to having Coach Lindsey at the helm as we seek our first ever appearance in the FCS Playoffs.”
