On October 22nd I had the privilege to go to L.A. to see the Chicago Philharmonic perform Brahms Symphonies 2 and 3 at Disney Hall. This was the first time I had ever been to Disney hall and I was greatly Impressed by the architecture and the acoustics of the space. That evenings performance of Brahms was spectacular. Ricardo Muti delivered a scintillating performance expertly guiding his ensemble through Brahms highlighting every melody and conveying the emotion and passion of Brahms’s writing. I had never heard a live performance of Brahms before, its amazing how differently one hears the music live vs a recording. As an encore Muti provided the audience with a real treat playing a piece by Schubert. I really enjoyed the concert and it was well worth the hot drive from San Diego.
