We are pleased to announce Dr. LeeAnna Chapman as a new full-time faculty member in the department of Environmental & Ocean Sciences. Dr. Chapman got her Ph.D. and M.S. in Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Science and her B.S. in Natural Resources: Ecosystem Assessment from North Carolina State University.   She has diverse experience.  Her master’s work involved earth systems modeling using GIS.  Her doctoral work in geoscience education focused on assessing experiences that best prepare geoscience graduate students and post-docs to be effective instructors and future professors.   She has three years experience teaching earth science and will be teaching Natural Disasters, Introduction to Atmospheres and Oceans and a new upper-division course for the EOSC department.  Notable have been her innovative student centered teaching approaches, which have engaged non-science and science majors.  She has also worked on an NSF-funded STEM education initiative to develop course content that promotes systems thinking of geoscience in the context of societal issues.  Her role involved working directly with faculty from multiple institution types to create modular online resources to support the teaching of introductory geoscience and environmental science courses.
