Media, Glocalization, and the Public Sphere in Latin America

Professor Salvador Leetoy

This is an advanced seminar that will focus on the role of media in democratic movements across Latin America with emphasis on Mexico. The course will concentrate on both a political economy and cultural studies perspective investigating participatory culture and citizen engagement.

Tuesdays / Thursdays 2:30-3:50 p.m.

Professor Leetoy is a professor in the Department of Communication and Digital Arts at the Tecnologico doe Monterrey (ITESM), Guadalajara Campus. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. His research interests include cultural studies, theories of mass communication and models of democracy and citizenship. He is a visiting professor at USD through the scholar exchange program through the International Center.
