From Applied Mathematics to Government Official

Takanobu Ameya, USD Class of 2004, has lived a very impressive life. A native of Japan, Takanobu has earned two degrees, Bachelor of Science in Physics from Tohoku University in 1998 and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with Applied Emphasis from USD in 2004.

When Takanobu joined USD, he was on the path of becoming a diplomat. That did not stop him from choosing the unconventional way and majoring in mathematics. Besides being a stellar student at USD, Takanobu’s work on his applied mathematics senior project was published at the SIAM journal on Applied Mathematics 2009.

Since his graduation in 2004, Takanobu has been appointed to various positions from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as Third Secretary at the Japanese Embassy in Bangladesh, Vice-Consul at the Japanese Consulate General in Chicago, and most recently a Japanese Government official in the Nuclear Energy Division.

In addition to his impressive career path, Takanobu is happily married and a proud father. Congratulations and warm greetings to Takanobu and his family from sunny San Diego.
