GERM 294 – German Literature in Translation: The Literature of War

  • No prerequisites
  • Taught in English (No prior knowledge of German needed)
  • Fulfills the Core Curriculum literature requirement (but not the language requirement)

In this course, students will study the unique genres and styles of 20th Century German literature—World War I, Weimar Republic, Nazi Era, post World War II, and East Germany—and explore their political, historical, and cultural relevance. Students will learn to understand the similarities and differences between these literary periods and how they are all essential to understanding German society through the lens of literary expression.
