The Department of Communication Studies is thrilled to host Jon Lowenstein in Spring 2012. Lowenstein is a notable documentary photographer who is teaching a special six-week intensive course titled “The Slow Burn – Documentary Storytelling in the New Age” where students are encouraged to inspire others through photographic storytelling. As a photojournalist, Lowenstein encourages the telling of the “slow story” where context, history, and culture are intertwined to help others understand the complexity of topics such as immigration. One of his current projects is titled, “Shadow Lives USA” which documents the lives of Mexican and Central American migrants.
