Professor Michelle Camacho Sits on 'Miss Representation' Panel

UT San Diego - "Miss Representation," a documentary about how women are perceived in the media, is always relevant. But maybe a little more so right after the Super Bowl, when those commercials are fresh in everyone's mind.
The movie, which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network, takes an honest look at the way powerful women are portrayed in the media. Along with facts, figures and troubling video footage, the film also includes interviews with Condoleezza Rice, Lisa Ling, Nancy Pelosi, Rosario Dawson, Gloria Steinem and many others." (Full Story)
Michelle Madsen Camacho is chair and associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego. Her research uses theories from interdisciplinary sources including cultural studies, critical race, gender and feminist theories.
