U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey: Test Yours

Friday, October 1, 2010

The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life has recently released its U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey report. Based on an analysis of answers from approximately 3,500 individuals to a series of 32 survey questions, the report attempts to provide a baseline measurement of how much Americans know about religion today.

Conclusions include:

  • Atheists and agnostics, Jews and Mormons are among the highest-scoring groups on a new survey of religious knowledge, outperforming evangelical Protestants, mainline Protestants and Catholics on questions about the core teachings, history and leading figures of major world religions.
  • On average, Americans correctly answer 16 of the 32 religious knowledge questions on the survey.

Visit the Pew Forum's website for details on the report. While you're there, you'll be invited to take short "Religious Knowledge Quiz" to guage how much you know about religion.
