USD is honored at the Annual American Indian Recruitment Programs Banquet

On Wednesday, December 3, 2009 two USD students and one faculty member were honored at the AIR banquet held at Harrah’s Rincon Resort on the Rincon Indian Reservation. Kate Gordon and Roberta Garcia shared honors as the “2009 Mentor of the Year” and Michelle Jacob, Ph.D., (Ethnic Studies) received the “2009 Community Leader Award.” Jacob and USD Ethnic Studies alumna Christy Garcia presented Gordon and Garcia their awards. Alberto Pulido, Ph.D., chair of Ethnic Studies, presented Jacob with her award. Ethnic Studies was featured during the banquet, for the department’s strong commitment to the American Indian community in our community service learning partnership with the AIR Program. Congratulations to everyone!
