Camron Proctor Wins Award at Plasma Conference

Friday, November 13, 2009

Camron Proctor '10 (Physics) wins undergraduate research poster award at the 51st Annual American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics National Meeting, Atlanta, GA, 1-5 January 2009.

Proctor notes, "This summer I worked closely with Dr. Severn in an attempt to calibrate a novel plasma diagnostic.  Through funding from McNair and a Department of Energy grant, I was able to present my findings at the 51st annual American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The experience was invaluable.  It immersed me in the world of plasma physics and I was able to meet the big names in plasma physics and fusion energy.  Most importantly I was able to meet faculty and show off my own abilities, for which I was awarded one of six recognitions for outstanding undergraduate presentation achievement.  This is my second year doing research with the department and my first international and fourth national conference presentation.  USD physics has given me the opportunity to pursue my research goals in a rare way."
