A Message from President Lyons
Friday, August 21, 2009
The University of San Diego welcomes you to the website of the Center for the Study of Latino/a Catholicism.
Founded in 1994, the Center is dedicated to theological research and reflection on Latino/a Catholicism, and its impact on U.S. society and church. The Center is committed to carrying out its mission in an interdisciplinary, ecumenical and culturally sensitive manner.
Given the present demographic importance and continued growth of Latinos/as in U.S. Catholicism and in society in general, the University of San Diego is committed to the mission of the Center. The scholarly publications, symposia and other services provided by the Center over the past decade and a half have already made significant contributions to the understanding of U.S. Latino/a Catholicism.
I am confident that under the able and trusted leadership of Dr. Orlando Espin, the Center's founder and director, this research unit of the University of San Diego will contribute further to our university's overall commitment to academic excellence.
Mary E. Lyons, Ph.D.
