San Diego Startup Week has arrived! This is a time when the local business community comes together to support and ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of our city. Once a year, Startup Week brings entrepreneurs, developers, designers, investors and students together to showcase San Diego’s thriving culture of innovation. With educational sessions, social events, demo nights, fairs and the opportunity to meet thousands of like-minded entrepreneurs, attendees get a chance to strengthen their network, share resources and build transformative relationships to benefit the future of their businesses and our local economy.

At the University of San Diego (USD) School of Business, we believe that new ventures can be a catalyst for transforming our world. We recognize that society needs visionary changemakers who create new models and shift existing paradigms for sustainable change, and we work very hard to instill this idea into the hearts and minds of our students. With this commitment in mind, USD School of Business is joining the incredible momentum of San Diego Startup Week by actively participating in the week-long event.

Our recently launched Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be there to share their resources with San Diego’s community of entrepreneurs. The purpose of the SBDC is to provide world-class business consulting with relevant and insightful guidance to growth-oriented, innovation-based entrepreneurs, who are running small businesses.  SBDC focuses on providing support to businesses that have fewer than 500 employees, are innovation-focused and are looking to impact not only economic growth but also prosperity for the region through the penta-bottom line approach (profit, people, planet, peace, prosperity). Representatives from our Global Social Innovation Challenge and entrepreneurship team will also be there to expand USD’s network with San Diego entrepreneurs. Feel the “buzz” of the startup atmosphere and visit us at the Resources Fair on Wednesday, June 27 to get insight into the innovation ecosystem at USD.

We are also very excited to be represented at the Startup Fair by Generations, this year’s winner of the V2 Pitch Competition and a finalist in the Global Social Innovation Challenge. Generations is a startup that aims to create positive social change by giving seniors and stay-at-home parents the opportunity to connect and build mutually beneficial relationships. This past May at the V2 Pitch Competition, Generations took home $19,000 in seed money to launch their innovation. Now, they are looking to connect with others in our local entrepreneurial community to take their business idea to the next level.

Through our presence at San Diego Startup Week, USD hopes to build longstanding relationships among our university, students, and the San Diego community. We are incredibly eager for our staff and students to make powerful connections and get immersed in local startup culture next week.

Students can attend the entire week of San Diego Startup Week starting at just $35.
