Jason Magabo Perez

Jason Magabo Perez is a writer, performance artist and educator. His writings have appeared in Witness, Tayo and Mission at Tenth. A recipient of a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Perez has performed at the National Asian American Theater Festival, the International Conference of the Philippines, at several university and college campuses throughout California, and at venues such as the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the La Jolla Playhouse. For the past several years, Perez has taught writing, performance and ethnic studies at various university and college campuses throughout San Diego. He received his MFA in Writing & Consciousness from the New College of California and is an alumnus of the VONA/Voices Writing Workshop for Writers of Color. Currently, he serves as the Project Scholar for One Book, One San Diego at the San Diego Public Library. And, as the Arts-Educator-in-Residence at the Center for Awareness, Service and Action at the University of San Diego, Perez will develop collaborative, community-based projects and programs that bring together efforts in arts-based education, community organizing and social justice.
