Legal Research Databases

Off campus access to these databases is limited to USD students, faculty, and staff. You will be asked for your name and barcode number from the back of your USD identification card.

  • CALI Exercises to increase knowledge of an area of legal study performed over the Internet or downloaded and performed on a computer. The LRC also has the exercises on a CD-Rom at the Circulation Desk.  Please click here to obtain password and username information.  You will be asked to supply your USD e-mail log-in and password.
  • Congressional Research Digital Collection (CRDC) Full text Congressional Committee Prints from 1830 to the present and Congressional Research Service Reports from 1916 to the present.
  • Congressional Hearings Digital Collection (CHDC) Full text Congressional Committee Hearings, as well as related reports, statistical analyses, exhibits, and correspondence inserted into the record from 1824 to the present.
  • HeinOnline Digital copies of law reviews of U. S. law schools.  Coverage begins with the first issue of each publication. 
  • Human Rights Documents Online Documents edited by Human Rights Internet, which serves as an unofficial depository for over 350 non-governmental human rights organizations worldwide. Coverage is 1980-2003.
  • IntelliConnect (Including CCH Tax Library)  Includes state & federal primary law materials, reporters, practice materials, & journals. After the Login page appears, follow the instructions on the screen to create your own user ID and password. Enter your search expression in the search box at the top and hit the go button.
  • InterAm database Primarily a Latin American law database developed by the National Law Center for InterAmerican Free Trade. Canadian materials are also included because Canada is a NAFTA partner. InterAm access is limited to USD community members. Click here for password information.
  • JSTOR Full-text searchable archive of core scholarly journals. Current issues are not available on JSTOR. Read these JSTOR Search Tips.
  • LLMC-Digital Database Older publications of the U. S. Government. Titles being digitized and added to the database are organized in three categories:
    U.S. Federal-Executive Collection Publications generated by any U.S. federal department, agency, commission, or other rule-making and enforcement body dependent upon the executive supervision of the President of the United States.
    U.S. Federal-Judicial Collection Publications generated by any of the U.S. Federal Courts, as well as those statutory organizations, such as the Federal Judicial Center, which facilitate the administration of the courts.
    U.S. Federal-Legislative Collection Publications generated by the U.S. Congress, its committees and temporary commissions, and those agencies, such as the GAO, Library of Congress, and the Copyright office, which report directly to Congress.
    For current publications of the U. S. Government use GPOACCESS.
  • LegalTrac Search title, author and subject fields for articles published in law related journals and newspapers. Once you find a relevant article, search SALLY to determine availability of the journal.
  • Making of Modern Law is the most comprehensive full-text collection of Anglo-American legal treatises of the period from 1800-1926. Click Proceed on the first page and then select database on the second page.
  • OnLAW CEB's full-text database of California-specific treatises and forms.
  • RIA Full-text access to both state & federal primary & secondary tax law materials.
  • Social Science Research Network Published papers relating to the social sciences with abstracts and full bibliographic descriptions. Also provides information on seminars and other social science-related events.  Choose desired network from frame on the left side of the SSRN homepage.
  • Tax Management Portfolios Plus Electronic Collection of Tax Management Portfolios
  • United Nations Documents:
  1. AccessUN Index to United Nations documents including Official Records, masthead documents, draft resolutions, meeting records, UN Sales Publications, and the UN Treaty Series citations. Many are available in full-text on this web site.  Those not available online are reproduced on microfiche and are available for viewing at the LRC.
  2. United Nations Treaty Collection Treaties and international agreements entered into by member states and registered with the United Nations.
