An excellent, updated bibliography of sources in Spanish and English about Mexican law. A nineteen-page introduction is followed by a listing of primary and secondary sources arranged in more than 45 subject categories: Administrative Laws, Agrarian Reform Laws, Aliens and Nationality Laws, etc. Subject and author indexes are included. James E. Herget and Jorge Camil, An introduction to the Mexican legal system. Buffalo: W.S. Hein, 1978.
A summary of the Mexican legal system in English. The book, which has not been updated, provides an overview of Mexican law and legal institutions for the non-Spanish speaker. Includes a bibliography of pre-1978 English language sources and a glossary.

David Lopez, The legal system of Mexico in Modern legal systems cyclopedia, edited by Kenneth Robert Redden. Buffalo: W.S. Hein, 1984 --
A current English-language summary of Mexican law (60 pages), a bibliography of sources in English (more than 25 pages) and a glossary of Mexican legal terms (8 pages).

A very brief summary (8-pages) of Mexican law and a bibliography of sources arranged topically. Includes a list of websites.

Helen L. Clagett and David M. Valderrama, A revised guide to the law and legal literature of Mexico. Washington, D.C.: Library of Congress, 1973.
Revision of a 1945 guide. Although dated, this work is still useful for an understanding of Mexican law. 

La doble nacionalidad: Memoria del coloquio, Palacio Legislativo, 8-9 de junio, 1995. San Ángel, México : LVI Legislatura, Cámara de Diputados del H. Congreso de la Unión, 1995.
Proceedings of a 1995 Mexican legislative conference on dual nationality. In March 1998, Mexican law changed to allow dual nationality for those born in Mexico or born abroad to Mexican parents although they have become citizens of a country other than Mexico.

Ezequiel Guerrero Lara, Manual para el manejo del Semanario Judicial de la Federación. México: Universidad Nacional Autónima de México, 1982.
A guide, in Spanish, for use of the Semanario Judicial de la Federación. The Semanario, which is also in Spanish, is the official publication of decisions of the Mexican Supreme Court (Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación) and is divided into Épocas or series. Although the ninth Época is the most recent series, the Manual was written before the eighth Época. A guide is necessary because indexing for the Semanario has varied over time. Decisions of the Mexican Supreme Court are now also available on the Mexican Supreme Court website: http://www.scjn.gob.mx/.

English language definitions of Spanish legal terms. Individual definitions range from a word or phrase to several paragraphs in length. Includes a bibliography of other Spanish and English legal dictionaries, thesauri, etc.

Guillermo Cabanellas de las Cuevas and Eleanor C. Hoague, Butterworths Spanish/English Legal Dictionary = Diccionario Jurídico Español Inglés Butterworths. Austin, Texas: Butterworth Legal Publishers, 1991.
Two volumes: one is English to Spanish; the other is Spanish to English. Each is more than 650 pages in length. Definitions range from very brief (one word or one phrase) to more complex translations.

Four volumes. Entirely in Spanish. Contains signed, essay-like definitions with bibliographic notes at the end of each. Published every year or two. Later editions are available.

Rafael de Pina, Rafael de Pina Vara, Diccionario de Derecho. 26a ed. México : Editorial Porrúa, 1998.
Entirely in Spanish. Contains paragraph-long definitions and a brief section at the end on Aforismos, máximas y reglas juridicas (Aphorisms, maxims and judicial rules).

Julio Romañach, Dictionary of legal terms : Spanish-English, English-Spanish = Diccionario de términos jurídicos : español-inglés, inglés-español. Baton Rouge, LA : Jura Division, Lawrence Pub. Co., c1992.
English to Spanish and Spanish to English sections of about 100 pages each. Definitions are generally a phrase or two in length.

Gerardo Solís, West's Spanish-English, English-Spanish law dictionary = Diccionario legal espanõl-inglés, inglés-español. St. Paul, MN : West, 1992.
Spanish to English and English to Spanish sections of about 300 pages each. Definitions/explanations tend to be about one paragraph in length.
