Patron Suggestion
Dear Library Staff: 10/26/04
It would be really great if the library could acquire more comfortable, big, cushy chairs like the two in front of the (fake) fireplace, & scatter them around like in the Reading Room. On a cold, rainy day, there’s nothing like having a nice big chair to study in.
Thank you,

We love them, too, and think they are a great thing to have. Ironically, they seem to be used primarily for napping instead of studying, but maybe that is due to their location – as you said -- in front of the heat and roaring flames of the fireplace.
This is not the first request for more comfy chairs. Having more chairs of this kind depends on many things, mostly location. You might have noticed that the library is pretty much filled up with books and study carrels. The ABA mandates that we have a certain number of study spaces in relation to the student population. Therefore, study carrels and tables take precedence over comfy chairs. Luckily, we also have comfy chairs by the east and west windows on the same floor, near the newspaper and leisure reading sections, and a few scattered about on other floors. We'll keep the idea of getting more comfy furniture in mind for longer-range planning. Thanks for the suggestion.
