Laptop Access in the LRC

The University of San Diego does not require students to have a laptop computer.  However the Legal Research Center does have data outlets allowing laptop access to the Internet, USD e-mail, and SALLY (USD's library catalog).  In order to access one of these systems the laptop must have the software loaded on its hard drive.  For instance, to use Netscape your computer must have Netscape software loaded.  The LRC also offers wireless access in the Reference and Reading Room areas.

There are more than 200 active data outlets throughout the LRC.  The outlets are marked "data".  Please ask at the Reference Desk, Circulation Desk, or Electronic Services Office if you are interested in locating a data outlet.  If you have difficulty in logging into the wireless transmitters please see Electronic Servcies in LRC 121 for assistance.

Carrels also have a grommet hole in the desk for the patron to insert a security cable for the laptop.  The LRC Circulation desk has several of these security devices for checkout.  The USD Bookstore in Loma Hall carries several of the accessories listed below, including security cables.

Below are recommendations and minimum requirements for laptops capable of accessing the LRC data outlets. Please call the LRC Electronic Services Department at 619-260-4759 if you have questions.
