Reference and Instructional Services
Our reference librarians are eager to answer your questions and provide assistance with your research. There are several ways for you to contact us:
- Reference Desk: Just stop by the desk or call us (619) 260-4765 during our regular reference hours
- Online: Search our 24/7 FAQ, send us an email, text message us, or chat live with a librarian. Just go to our Ask a Librarian services at: libanswers.sandiego.edu.
- Research Consultations: Need more in-depth assistance? Make an appointment with a subject specialist to discuss your research needs.
- Library Instruction Sessions: These are available on request from any of the librarians. We will work with you to develop a session tailored to the needs of your students. These can be held in the instructional classroom in Copley Library or we can come to your classroom. Contact your discipline’s Library Liaison to schedule a session.
Faculty may place materials on reserve for their classes in either our physical reserves section of the library or our online (ERES) system. Please see the reserves section of our website for detailed information on how to use our reserves services.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Books (not available at the USD libraries or from the CIRCUIT libraries) and journal articles (not available at the USD libraries) may be requested through Interlibrary Loan using the ILLIAD interface on the Copley Library web site. When your item arrives you will be contacted through email, and journal articles will be sent directly to your desktop. See our Interlibrary Loan page for more detailed information.
RapidILL is a fast, user-friendly interlibrary loan program that reduces a faculty member’s wait time for an article from two weeks to 24-hours or less. This service will allow faculty to request articles and book chapter(s) in digital format. You will receive an email notifying you when your article has arrived.
Get It Now is available to faculty for emergency research needs on the weekends and holidays when the library is closed. This service will allow faculty to order four articles per semester from the Copyright Clearance Center. Turnaround time for delivery of full-text journal articles is as quick as 5 to 10 minutes. GetItNow also has the added advantage of copyright clearance assurance. Ideal for last minute needs of a researchers who is working under a tight deadline.
To provide easier access to materials in Copley Library, faculty are able to request materials that are on Copley’s shelves using the on-line catalog. These materials will be retrieved by library staff and kept at the Access Services desk. An email is sent to the requestor when the materials are ready for pickup.
Research/Graduate Assistant Proxy Form
If faculty members wish to have their research assistant pick up their materials, they will need to complete our research/graduate assistant proxy form.
