As of 10/30/09

Winter Palace in St Petersburg**

Computer's and your Exams

Students will not be allowed to use or bring computers into their exam room. No computers will be allowed for the writing of examinations, all exams are handwritten. No machine with a memory can be used in the exams.

You must also obtain your class professor's approval, in advance of class (so do this at Orientation), to bring a computer into class to use during your regular class sessions.

Students with DISABILITIES- please go to Admissions and click on "Disabilities" for more information. Documentation is required within 2 weeks (or sooner, depending on when you enroll) of enrollment (if you apply before April 1). After April 1, documentation is require to be at our office within 5 days of enrollment.

However, no matter the disability or reasoning, computers will not be allowed in any exam room at any of our study abroad programs.

We will be more than happy to try and accommodate your requirements, however, if you wait until the last minute to let us know of your disability, then there is no guarantee that we will be able to accommodate you. It is your responsibility to provide our office the required information in a timely manner.

A professor may give an exam that is open book, open note, closed book, or something in between, but if the student is allowed to bring notes, they must be on paper, not on computer. This is USD's rule.

Also, exams are never given early or in advance.

There is no requirement that your class work be typed.

You must also obtain your class professor's approval, in advance of class (so do this at Orientation), to bring a computer into class to use during your regular class sessions.

Computer Facilities

There are NO computers, printing, copying or e-mail services/facilities available for your use at the Pericles Training Center, where classes are held.

If you want to bring your computer, please read "Getting Online in Europe".

But if you wish to bring your computer for other work, please read this checklist of things to check out before you leave. Checklist for your computer

In past years most students brought their own computer and printers. But that is entirely up to each student to decide whether to bring or not to bring!

You also might wish to check out this site Moscow's Internet and WI-FI Cafe's Scroll down for listings of more Internet/WI-FI sites (over 30 places listed - the Santa Fe Restaurants, Hard Rock Cafe or TGI Friday's in town and at the airport, and La Gateau.) You should print off this list to bring with you.

E-Mail Access

Students should always consider having a separate e-mail account when they are in Europe. This avoids filling up your regular e-mail box with junk mail from Europe.

A warning about E-Mails - Telephone lines in Russia are very poor, 28K baud may be about the maximum rate you will consistently get. If you get to many disconnected calls, try slowing down your modem.
