Using your computer to take your exam(s)
No computer can be physically present in the exam room in any of our summer abroad programs.
No machine with a memory can be used in the exams. All exams are handwritten, no exceptions.
No student may use their computers to access their notes during the exam. This is a major prohibition under USD rules.
Also, students may not do their exams on a computer because computers have memories. At USD, we use Examsoft to neutralize the memory function in the computers, but we do not have the technical ability to do that abroad, and it would be unfair to people who did not bring computers to let others use them on the exam.
If you have a registered disability that prevents you from handwriting your exam, please go to Disabilities for a list of requirements that you need to provide our office with. This paperwork MUST be at our office no later than 2 weeks after you have enrolled.
However, no matter the disability or reasoning, computers will not be allowed in any exam room at any of our study abroad programs.
We will be more than happy to try and accommodate your requirements, however, if you wait until the last minute to let us know of your disability, then there is no guarantee that we will be able to accommodate you. It is your responsibility to provide our office the required information in a timely manner.
A professor may give an exam that is open book, open note, closed book, or something in between, but if the student is allowed to bring notes, they must be on paper, not on computer. This is USD's rule.
You must also obtain your class professor's approval, in advance of class (so do this at Orientation), to bring a computer into class to use during your regular class sessions.
Exams are never given early or in advance.
