Students may make any housing arrangements they prefer. Prices below can change at any given time without notification or warning.
Students may sublet apartments for around $1,900+ per month, take a room in the apartments of Barcelonians for around $1,500+ per month, or live in hotels for around $2,000+ per month. Housing arrangements should be made in advance. It is strongly encouraged that students secure housing in Barcelona before they leave the U.S. or your home Country. In the past, there have been students who waited until they arrive and they had a difficult time in finding housing. FYI: We are there during high tourist season, so housing may be scarce and very expensive if you arrive in Barcelona without any pre-arranged housing.
You should be aware that student-level apartments in Barcelona are often not up to southern California standards. Part of the charm of living abroad lies in coping with the differences. Some students prefer to wait until arrival in Barcelona to make final housing decisions, this is NOT advisable. You are strongly encouraged to find housing in February, March and no later than the first week of April. Barcelona hosts many events and finding housing without prearrangement is difficult.
The following information is a combination of what we have seen and students have told us, so it may no longer be entirely accurate, as prices and availability vary more in Barcelona than elsewhere. Also be aware that most landlords will require that you send them a deposit to hold your rental, via wire transfer in Euro dollars (Wire Transfers charges apply both on your end and the other end or an International Money Order in Euro dollars. You may end up paying for any fees involved. Negotiate these fees with the landlord or rental agent at the very beginning). Sometimes, deposits can be as much as your actual rent. Under no circumstances should you arrive in Barcelona from the U.S. without a reservation for the night of your arrival.
The cheapest housing can sometimes be a room in a family's apartment. Often, family living situations insists on providing some meals, which increases the cost. Sometimes it is difficult to study, either from lack of space, not enough quiet, or too much temptation to speak with the family in Spanish. Family living works better for students who speak some Spanish, or with a family that speaks English. Quality of these experiences varies widely.
More expensive housing is a studio in an ApartHotel. See information below. Generally, it is cheaper to rent for an entire month, 30+ nights of the program rather than for 24 nights and days. Unless otherwise indicated, the prices for a studio are suitable for one person; but many of the following places have studios, one bedrooms, and occasionally 2-bedroom apartments. All the prices below are subject to change without notification, so you should contact each place personally, as soon as possible, to find out what the current price is or what it will be when you are there and try to secure your spot early! There are over 100+ links regarding housing for Barcelona on our web site, so if you start early (January, February or before mid-March), you should be able to find something reasonably priced and within your budget. If you wait until April or May to find housing on your own, there is a good possibility you will be paying much higher prices, if anything is still available. Most of the time, it is generally more expensive if you rent an apartment by yourself. You should consider 1 or more roommates to help keep costs down.

Here is what a former Barcelona student, Duke Kang dukekang@yahoo.com, had to say re OH-Barcelona:
The agency I dealt with - Open House Barcelona (OH-Barcelona), was very prompt in their esponses to questions and emails. I did have a couple smaller complaints about my dealings with them. First, they would not hold, for any length of time, the unit that I wanted. In fact, between the time of my last e-mail from them and the time it took to wire a deposit (48 hours), they booked the unit to someone else. Fortunately they had another unit which ended up being a better deal. Nevertheless, I thought it odd, giving away a unit for which I was sending a deposit. Also, once they receive the deposit and their fees, I dealt directly with the owner of the property who wanted the entire rent in cash, so I had to carry a couple of thousand US dollars for a few days of travelling.
The owner and her husband were very nice, though. They even bought us a new fan and brought it over the same day when they noticed it was getting warm. Also, there was no problem getting our deposit back. The owner came when I said it would be convenient and gave me the whole deposit in cash before we had even cleaned.
The apartment unit itself was nice and clean, though in a rough neighborhood. Even the neighborhood, my roommates (girls and guys) and I got used to and even liked by the end of our stay.
There was no elevator in the building where we were on the second floor and the roof for drying clothes was four floors up.
Even though our immediate neighborhood was rough, the location was prime for convenience. We were less than five minutes to the Metro, less than five minutes to many bars, restaurants and Las Ramblas, and 20 minute's walk to the beach. It takes thirty minutes to get to class from the apartment.

Or contact Mr Jesus Zaragoza @ jesus@swamicentral.com who may have an apartment with 3 bedrooms of which 2 have terraces. It is a 3 min walk to the beach, with views of the beach and the mountains. Public transportation (bus or train) is 3 minutes away and it takes about 20 minutes to get to the Playa de Catalunya and is probably about 30 minutes or so away from school. Please contact him directly for further information on prices, deposits, directions and the actual address.
