Recording Policy

A. Classroom Events Policy

  • Attendance is expected in all classes.  Attendance means physical presence in the classroom.  Regular and punctual attendance is necessary to satisfy law school and ABA requirements. However, Technology Services Department (TSD) will record classes for faculty for pedagogical reasons as well as make-up classes that fall outside the regular class time block, classes for students with verified disabilities, or classes for students observing religious holidays.   Students must get written approval from the instructor at least 48 hours in advance.
    • Faculty Requests for Taping:  Faculty may request that their classes be audio or video taped for pedagogical reasons or special events. The request must be submitted at least 48 hours in advance of the event using the online Audio/Video Request Form.
    • Major Religious Holidays:  Classes taking place on major religious holidays are not automatically recorded.  Faculty and/or students may request that a class be audio/video taped using the online Audio/Video Request Form.

B.  Non-Classroom Events

  • Law School faculty and staff may request to have non-class events recorded when submitting their room request online or using the online Audio/Video Request Form 48 hours in advance of the event.

C.  Publication of Recordings

  • Class recordings for students are made available only to the students requesting the taping.  Class recordings due to religious holidays or makeup classes are made available to the entire class by the instructor.  Please note that instructors reserve the right to remove any link from class playlists or individual links at any time.
  • It takes two full business days (excluding weekends and holidays) for TSD to process and post links for media streaming from the University of San Diego Video or Media Site Server.
  • All class-related digital audio and video recordings will be posted in an associated class playlist or individually based on the instructor’s choice.
  • Unless students are notified otherwise, the postings will remain on the playlist or individually for the duration of the semester.  The administrator of the site retains the right to add or remove links from the server at any time.
  • The TSD must be notified in advance if there is any reason that digital audio and video streaming media will require posting longer than the current semester.
