James R. McCurdy

Visiting Professor of Law

Areas of Expertise

Professor McCurdy teaches Native American law and sports law.

Professional Experience

McCurdy began teaching in 1977 at Gonzaga University School of Law. He was appointed by the governor of Washington to represent the state on the Environmental Improvement Basin Commission, which is charged with implementing the Superfund cleanup plan for the Coeur d'Alene Basin. He has a special interest in mediation of disputes.

Honors and Affiliations

In 2011, McCurdy was awarded the Spirit Award from Prime Magazine. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors, Northwest Conflict Management Center. He has served as president of the Pioneer Baseball League, and been a member of the Council of League Presidents for minor league baseball.

McCurdy’s publications include Sports Law: Cases & Materials, 5th Ed. (co-authored) (Anderson, 2003).
