Institutional framework of the European Union; remedies and enforcement before national courts and European Union courts; and selected substantive law provisions relating to free movement of goods, persons, and services, the right of establishment, environmental policy, and equal rights for women.

International Corporations

Professor Manning Warren
Formation, operation and regulation of corporations under U.S. and European law; the special fiduciary duties of promoters and shareholders of closely-held corporations; public and private placements of securities, including the due diligence concept and an overview of remedies for securities fraud; officer and director fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, good faith and disclosure; equitable clawback of executive compensation and other remedies; shareholder derivative suits; corporate compliance programs and best practices; the standards of care applicable to corporate attorneys; and an overview of developments in European Union corporate and securities regulation, including consideration of a European version of the SEC.

International Environmental Law

Professor Elizabeth Burleson
The basic structure and principles of international environmental law involve addressing transboundary environmental problems through international institutions and cross-border cooperation. This class examines selected regional environmental responses to climate change, biodiversity, transboundary and marine pollution and ozone depletion, as well as the intersection of international trade and the environment.

International Business Internship (We are no longer accepting applications for the Internship)

Professor Allen Snyder
Students participate in practicing law related to international business transactions, including contract, financial, commercial, tax, European Union Law, labor, securities, etc. After being prepared to function in the legal environment, each student will work for a law firm in Barcelona. The experience depends on the work in the office assigned. Students may participate in client interviews, negotiating sessions, meeting with government representatives, strategy sessions, and arbitration or litigation. The student may gather facts, and may draft, review, or translate contracts, opinion letters, trial or arbitration documents, and the like. Seminars integrate the work experience.
No Exam (Graded HP, P, LP, F) (2 cr.) MTWThF 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.+

Spanish Language Classes

A beginning conversational Spanish course and an intermediate conversational Spanish course are offered Monday - Friday 1:10 – 2:00 p.m. for an additional charge. Spanish is open to accompanying persons and is not for college credit.
