Intellectual Property Law Association (IPLA) and Business Law Society (BLS): Nike, Inc. In-House IP Litigation Guest Speaker

Join us for a discussion on global IP litigation with Nike, Inc.'s Senior Director of Global Intellectual Property Litigation Brian Fogarty, '01. He will discuss what it is like to be in-house counsel to a multinational corporation and the types of IP issues Nike encounters. He will also explore some of the recent U.S. Supreme Court opinions and how they affect the legal field. This event is open to all students and In-N-Out will be provided.

Legal Writing and Research (LWR) Department: Academic Writing and The Bluebook-Citations in Law Journals and in Scholarly Writing

Are you planning on participating in the Write-On Competition, writing a scholarly article, or taking a paper class that requires you to construct proper academic citations? If so, please join us for lunch and a presentation about using The Bluebook to construct proper academic citations. The presentation will give you an overview about the major differences between non-academic citations (practitioner format) and academic citations (law journal and scholarly writing format), and it wll also give you a general overview of many of the Rules and Tables in The Bluebook that you may need to use during the Write-On Competition. St. Thomas More Society (STMS): Overcoming Ethical Conflicts Panel and Networking Event

Join us for a panel regarding ethics in the law. The panelists will discuss common ethical issues they have come across in their careers and how they have overcome such challenges. The panel will also address the fight against human trafficking and overcoming struggles between personal views and representing criminal defendants. Our panel includes Trisha Amador (San Diego District Attorney, Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Division), Rohanee Zapanta, '02 (Office of the Public Defender), Bud Klueck, '86 (Klueck & Hoppes, APC), and Paul Jonna, '09 (LiMandri & Jonna, LLP). Join GSC for our annual Padres in the Park game. The game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. against the Miami Marlins. Student tickets are $35 and guest tickets are $55. Student Wellness: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training

Did you know that suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people aged 25-34? Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Training is designed to help identify the warning signs of suicide and reduce suicide behavior. In this one-hour training, you will learn how to recognize suicide-warning signs, ask someone you are concerned about whether they may be considering suicide, and help refer someone who may be struggling to professional help. Please register for this training and learn how to be a life-saving resource.

Spring 2017 Course Evaluations

Let your voice be heard! Take some time to provide anonymous feedback on your courses by filling out all of your online course evaluations. Evaluations are available until the day after your last class meeting, for each individual class. For most classes lasting the entire semester, evaluations will close on April 27. To access the Spring 2017 evaluation forms, log in to MySanDiego and click on the "Law Student" tab. Scroll down to "Registration Tools" and click on "Registration History." Then click on the course evaluation hyperlink with the professor's name to begin the evaluation. The professor does not read the evaluation results or written comments until after grades have been submitted. Hard copies of the completed course evaluations are available for students to review in the Academic Success Resource Center (Warren Hall room 206). Contact: Academic Success & Bar Programs.

Graduating Class Gift: Enter the Scavenger Hunt

To support this year's Graduating Class Gift campaign, register to participate in the first ever USD Law Class Gift Scavenger Hunt! The Scavenger Hunt begins on Tuesday, April 18 at 8:00 a.m. and ends on Wednesday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. (at the start of the Dean's Mixer). You and your team will have 32 hours to complete a list of tasks (including trivia and challenges) all right here on USD's campus. The Scavenger Hunt registration and instructions are on the SBA TWEN page (under "Sign-Up Sheets"). Registration is $40 per team and each team can have up to four law students. Any law students is eligible to participate. All registration fees will go towards the Graduating Class Gift. Check out the SBA TWEN page for more information and a list of the available prizes (including Barrister's Ball tickets and reserved parking). Order of Barristers: Apply by April 17

Each year, a few graduating students are selected for membership in the prestigious Order of Barristers. You may be eligible to receive this honor, which recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in oral advocacy and brief writing. If you think you are eligible for members in the Order of Barristers, you should submit a brief statement of your qualifications. No other materials will be considered. Please write in bullet points, not narrative form. Your statement of qualifications is due by noon on Monday, April 17. Please submit your statement of qualifications to Professor Jean Ramirez, either in hard copy or by email (ramirezj@sandiego.edu). Applications will be reviewed by a nominating committee of faculty members.

Legal Writing and Research (LWR) Program: Teaching Assistant Applications Due April 26

The LWR Program seeks rising 2Ls, 3Ls, and 4Ls to serve as teaching assistants during the 2017-2018 academic year. TAs will work closely with an LWR professor and will assist 1Ls with all aspects of the LWR curriculum: writing, research, and oral argument. Applicants should have a strong academic record, especially in the LWR course. To be paid for the position, students must be work-study eligible. The application is available online and is due by April 26, 2017. Contact the LWR Program with any questions.
