Women's Law Caucus (WLC): Annual Faculty Auction

4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.; Warren Hall The Writs

In conjunction with the Dean's February Mixer will be the Women's Law Caucus Annual Faculty Auction. The proceeds from this year's auction will be donated to Becky's House, a local women's charity. Items up for bid include outings with professors, gift certificates to local restaurants, professional photography packages, wine tastings, and much more! Stay tuned for more information regarding specific donation items. The silent auction will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. in the student lounge. Professor Dov Fox will be MCing the live auction from 4:45 p.m. until 5:45 p.m.

Business Law Society: Craft Beer Attorney Panel

We are proud to host Candace Moon (Craft Beer Attorney). She will discuss legal issues that craft breweries face. Her firm specializes in business law, contracts, employment law, and intellectual property. The firm has represented over 250 craft beer clients, including Green Flash, AleSmith, Drake's, and Mother Earth. Lunch will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Student Wellness: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training

2 p.m. - 3 p.m.; Hahn University Center Room 107

Did you know that suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people aged 25-34? Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Training is designed to help identify the warning signs of suicide and reduce suicide behavior. In this one-hour training, you will learn how to recognize suicide-warning signs, ask someone you are concerned about whether they may be considering suicide, and help refer someone who may be struggling to professional help. Please register for this training and learn how to be a life-saving resource.

Student Bar Association (SBA) and Black Law Students Association (BLSA): Long Road to Hard Truth--Discussion with Judge Robert L. Wilkins

All USD law faculty, students, and alumni are cordially invited to attend a discussion with Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Judge Wilkins will discuss his book, Long Road to Truth: The 100 Year Mission to Create the National Museum of African American History and Culture (which will be available for purchase). He will also speak about his career as both an attorney and a judge. A reception will follow at the La Gran Terraza patio at 5:30-7:30 p.m. Appetizers and graduate level beverages will be provided at the reception. Bergman Memorial Lecture: Seeking Juvenile Justice-In re Gault-50 Years

5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.; Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Theatre & Rotunda

USD School of Law is holding a panel discussion and reception in celebration of the 50th anniversary of In re Gualt, 387 U.S. 1 (1967), a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that held juveniles accused of crimes must be afforded many of the same due process rights as adults, such as the right to timely notification of the charges, the right to confront witnesses, the right against self-incrimination, and the right to counsel. The court's opinion was written by Justice Abe Fortas, a noted proponent of children's rights. 

This event is made possible by USD School of Law, Law Alumni Board of Directors, Office of Alumni Relations, Pardee Legal Research Center, Children's Advocacy Institute and Community Defenders Inc.

Student Refrigerators and Freezers Cleaning

6 p.m.; Warren Hall Student Lounge

The student refrigerators and freezers will be cleaned out today at 6 p.m. All items left in the refrigerators and freezers on this date will be thrown away (including all lunch bags and food containers). Items may be stored back in the refrigerators and freezers on Saturday, March 4 at 8 a.m. The student refrigerators and freezers are cleaned out on the first Friday of every month.

Advocates for Children and Education (ACE): SMART Program

12 p.m. - 4 p.m.; First United Methodist Church 119 E. 4th St. Escondido, CA 92025

This is a fun and rewarding pro bono opportunity. The SMART Program is aimed at teenages who have committed one misdemeanor offense and are going through the Youth Court Diversion Program to keep the charge off of their record. The goal is to help these teens think about their future, set goals, and make better decision. We run one-on-one activities and group discussion.

UCSD Center on Global Transformation: Maintaining an Independent Judiciary in the Face of Political Challenges

5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.; UC San Diego, Ida and Cecil Green Faculty Club's Atkinson Pavilion

Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Tassaduq Jillani will share his views on how the judicial system in Pakistan has established its independence from the other branches of government. Following his presentation, the Honorable M. Margaret McKeown of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will provide a comparative perspective and will discuss the current challenges facing the U.S. court. Attention May 2017 Graduates: Application to Graduate Opens Wednesday, March 1

The Application to Graduate opens on Wednesday, March 1. Please review the Commencement Checklist and look for the Application to Graduate email you will receive on March 1 for detailed instructions on the mandatory steps required to be approved to graduate.  As you finish up your final semester, we ask that you complete the Application to Graduate process by Friday, March 31, 2017. Please contact the Office for Law Student Affairs if you have questions.

California Bar Exam Registration Opens (Graduating Students Only)

Registration for the July 2017 California Bar Exam opens on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Due to limited seating in San Diego, it is highly recommended that you register within the first week of March. The Timely Filing Deadline is Monday, April 3, 2017. You will be required to pay a late fee if you register after April 3, 2017. Please review USD’s Bar Exam Information webpage for comprehensive information on taking and preparing for bar exams, including links to the California Bar Exam application, dates and deadlines.

Office for Graduate and International Programs: Summer Study Abroad and Semester Exchange Deadline

The application deadline for summer study abroad (summer 2017) and semester exchange (fall 2017) is March 1, 2017. Please complete your application as soon as possible. The priority application for the International Study Abroad Scholarship is March 1.

Student Bar Association (SBA): General Election Information.

The SBA General Election is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 16. If you would like to run, your Declaration of Candidacy is due on Thursday, March 2 at 11:59 p.m. Learn more information about the positions available and how to run at one of our two information sessions: Tuesday, February 21 at 12:00 p.m. in Warren Hall room 133; and Monday, February 27 at 12:30 p.m. in Warren Hall room 131 (after the SBA General Meeting). Office for Law Student Affairs: Take the Law Student Wellness Survey

All USD law students received an email on February 16 requesting their participation in the Law Student Wellness Survey. Participation in the survey will provide feedback about how to improve the resources and programming that the Office for Law Student Affairs provides to support law student wellness. You have until March 3, 2017 to complete the survey.

Legal Clinics: Accepting Applications for Summer 2017

Do an internship right here on campus. Join our on-site law office, earn academic credit, and gain skills working with actual clients on real legal cases. This is an experience that can boost your resume and prepare you for legal practice. We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2017 term. Apply online today.
