Appellate Moot Court: Alumni Torts Moot Court Information Session

The Alumni Torts Moot Court Tournament is an annual intramural moot court competition (open only to USD law students) organized entirely by the students of the Appellate Moot Court Board. This year's tournament will take place September 30-October 2, 2016, right here on campus. The student refrigerators and freezers will be cleaned out today at 6 p.m. All items left in the refrigerators and freezers on this date will be thrown away (including all lunch bags and food containers). Items may be stored back in the refrigerators and freezers on Saturday, September 3 at 8 a.m.

Academic Success Program 1L Workshop: Organizing the Chaos-Revisiting Note-Taking, Synthesis, and Time Management (Section C)

This workshop is the first in a series of three section-specific workshops, led by the Academic Success Fellows, taking place this fall semester. The first workshop builds on the skills introduced during orientation, including note-taking, synthesis, and time management. Most importantly, this workshop provides helpful pointers for taking excellent reading and class notes, as well as further demystifying the process of synthesis. Oral Advocacy Presentation for 1Ls

Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF): Equal Justice Works Conference Information Session

Student Bar Association (SBA): Budget Committee Meeting

This is our first Budget Committee Meeting of the year. Registered student organizations can request funding from SBA. To request funding, fill out and submit a Budget Request Form, available on the SBA TWEN page, then sign up to present your request to the Budget Committee for funding. Although today's meeting takes place on Wednesday, subsequent SBA Budget Committee Meetings will occur every other Monday in Warren Hall room 315.

Office of Financial Aid: USD Law Private Endowed Scholarship Application Now Open

A number of private scholarships are available for continuing JD students during the 2016-17 academic year. These scholarships are funded through the generosity of our alumni and friends. They are designed by the donors to recognize and encourage the achievement and potential of USD JD students. Consideration for these scholarships is generally based on academic performance, financial need, diversity and/or other specified qualifications. Students who submit the application will be considered for all available scholarships for which they qualify. The deadline to submit is Friday, September 23, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Apply today. Student Health Insurance Requirement

All law students are required to have health insurance while enrolled at USD. You may purchase an insurance policy through the school's provider, or you may waive participation in the University sponsored plan if you have a policy that will provide you with sufficient coverage while you are at USD. All students must either enroll in or waive out of the student health insurance plan by September 12, 2016. Your student account will automatically be charged for the student health insurance plan unless you submit a waiver by the September 12 deadline. For detailed information about the student health insurance requirement and instructions on how to enroll in or waive the student health insurance, please visit the USD health insurance website. Students should submit any insurance-related questions via the Gallagher Student Customer Service form or the 2016-17 USD health insurance online request form.

SBA Student Mentorship Program

The SBA Student Mentorship Program is a great way for 1Ls to get to know USD. 1Ls who sign up will receive an upper-class mentor; someone you can go to for advice and support. If you are a 1L who is interested in having an upper-class mentor, please submit the online request form by Friday, September 2, 2016. If you are an upper-class student who is interested in becoming a mentor for a 1L, please email SBA Vice President Kristina Darrough by Friday, September 2, 2016.

USD Mobile Apps: Install Today

Check out all of the USD mobile apps. Install the MySDMobile app (available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play) on your mobile device. Among several useful features, MySDMobile includes USD SafetyCheck. SafetyCheck allows you to contact the Department of Public Safety, report safety concerns, request a safety escort, and much more. You should also install the USD Law app (available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play). This app is designed specifically for the USD law community. You can view the student events calendar, access the LRC web page, track the campus tram in real-time, and much more.
