Announcements

Student Health Insurance Requirement: Extended Deadline

All law students are required to have health insurance while enrolled at USD. You may purchase an insurance policy through the school's provider, or you may waive participation in the University-sponsored plan if you have a policy that will provide you with sufficient coverage while you are at USD. All students must either enroll in or waive out of the student health insurance plan. Your student account will automatically be charged for the student health insurance plan unless you submit a waiver by the extended deadline (September 29, 2017). For detailed information about the student health insurance requirement and instructions on how to enroll in or waive the student health insurance plan, please visit the USD health insurance website. Students should submit any insurance related questions via the Gallagher Student Customer Service form. Please note that dependent coverage is not available for 2017-18 under the USD student health insurance plan.

Mandatory Title IX Training

The annual online training on sexual misconduct and relationship violence has been issued. All students at USD should have received an email from Campus Clarity on Tuesday, August 22 with a link to complete the training. All students at USD are required to complete this training in accordance with federal regulations. The deadline to complete this training is October 1, 2017. Students who do not complete the training by this date will be assessed a noncompliance fee in the amount of $250. Because this is an annual training, prior completion of the training does not exempt students from the requirement. If you have questions about the training, please visit the Title IX website or email titleix@sandiego.edu.

Student Wellness: Grad and GradBound Support Group

Student Wellness is offering a Group Counseling opportunity for all graduate level students at USD. The Grad and GradBound Support Group is a support group specifically tailored to graduate students. Share your experiences, success and struggles with other people who care. Balancing demands and professional life will be addressed with an emphasis on self-care. Group counseling is a form of treatment that allows participants to learn about themselves and their relationships with others and to address personal difficulties that are often shared by other members of the group. The Grad and GradBound Support Group will meet on Wednesdays from 3-4:30 p.m. starting on Wednesday, October 11. If you are interested in participating in this wellness group, please contact Karen L. Durst, PhD.

Office of Financial Aid: JD Private Scholarship Application is Now Open

A number of scholarships are available for continuing JD students (2, 3, & 4Ls) during the 2017-18 academic year. These scholarships are funded through the generosity of our alumni and friends. They are designed by the donors to recognize and encourage the achievement and potential of USD JD students. Consideration for these scholarships is generally based on academic performance, financial need, diversity and/or other specified qualifications. Students who submit the application will be considered for all available scholarships for which they qualify.  Deadline is Sept 22, 2017 by 5:00 p.m. Contact: Office of Financial Aid.

Red Mass: Looking for Volunteers

We are looking for student volunteers to serve during this year's Red Mass on Monday, October 2. There are several volunteer opportunities available. The volunteer roles are low pressure, do not require any experience, and you do not have to be Catholic to volunteer for most of the roles. The Mass is open to the entire law school community, regardless or religious affiliation. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet local judges and attorneys. If you would like to volunteer, please email Assistant Director for Law Student Affairs Laurie Keller.

Attention 1Ls: Orientation Photographs

You should have received an email from Grad Images with a downloadable version of the individual photo you took during orientation. If you have been unable to download the photo or did not receive your photo, please contact the Office for Law Student Affairs. We will send you a copy of your individual photo. Contact: Office for Law Student Affairs.

Welcome back students!  Over the summer the Legal Research Center welcomed a new Director! What is her name and where did she go to law school? Enter your answer on the library's website to win a treat from Trader Joe's! Contact: Reference Librarian Melissa Abernathy.

Legal Research Center (LRC): Student Organization Highlight of the Month

The LRC is highlighting VICAM (Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot) for the month of September. Please view the September highlight flyer on our Student Resources web page for more information. Contact: Reference Librarian Melissa Abernathy.
