Come watch and meet the candidates for the 2016 San Diego City Attorney election at the University of San Diego. Five San Diego attorneys will debate each other to determine who should be San Diego’s next elected City Attorney. Doors open at 6 p.m.; the debate starts at 6:30 p.m.

This event is hosted by the University of San Diego Law School at The Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Theatre and open to all members of the public. Light refreshments will be served before the debate. 

The candidates are:

Attorney Gil Cabrera has been an attorney in San Diego for 18 years, specializing in civil litigation and general counsel services. Mr. Cabrera is the past-Chairman of the San Diego Ethics Commission and currently serves on the San Diego Convention Center Board of Directors.

Attorney Rafael Castellanos is a Member of the Board of Port Commissioners of the Unified Port of San Diego, Chairs the Port’s Environmental Advisory Committee, and has served on the Board of MANA de San Diego and the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association.

Chief Deputy City Attorney Mara Elliott serves as Chief Deputy City Attorney and advises the City’s influential Audit and Environment Committees. Mara is endorsed by San Diego's Deputy City Attorneys Association and former San Diego City Attorney John W. Witt.

Deputy District Attorney Robert Hickey, a USD Law Alumnus, has spent over two decades leading attorneys in both criminal and civil legal practice. He is a dedicated public servant with the experience to provide the best legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, and members of the community.

Attorney Bryan Pease started his legal career in San Diego in 2004 in the advertising compliance division of a large nutritional supplement company. He has worked for a state assemblymember, a government human rights commission, and various executive roles in the nonprofit sector. Pease's private law practice focuses on government transparency, freedom of speech and assembly, and environmental protection.

Moderator Randy Berholtz is an Adjunct Professor at USD Law and the Acting General Counsel and Secretary, Innovus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is also the Vice President, Programs for the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, on the Advisory Council of the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences at the Claremont Colleges and the co-founder of Law Business World, Inc.
