Haley Shumaker joined the University of San Diego School of Law in August 2012. In addition to advising students on advocacy-related activities including Moot Court, Mock Trial, and VICAM, Shumaker provides administrative support to the National Mock Trial team and Civil Practicum course, and advises the American Association for Justice student organization. She also oversees advocacy-related high school outreach programs that our student organizations are involved in.
Shumaker received her undergraduate degree from University of California, Santa Barbara and is a 2007 graduate of USD School of Law. During law school, she was active in USD’s advocacy programs. She was a member of the Appellate Moot Court Board and national team and participated in the ATLA Intra-City Mock Trial Competition. She also served in the Child Advocacy and Special Education clinics.
Prior to joining USD, Shumaker spent several years as a prosecutor in the trial and neighborhood prosecution units of the San Diego City Attorney’s Office. As a deputy city attorney, she tried several jury trials and worked with community-based organizations, law enforcement, and elected officials to decrease and prevent crime in areas of Southeastern San Diego. Shumaker also worked as a junior associate attorney Dependency Legal Group of San Diego representing foster youth in juvenile court.
