Kiyana Kiel joined the University of San Diego in August of 2012 as the law school’s director of academic success. As director, Kiel has primary responsibility for designing and implementing innovative academic success materials, programs, and events. She also provides one-on-one and small group academic counseling sessions. Kiel believes academic success is for "every law student," and strives to design programming for students at all levels of the academic continuum.
Kiel is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she served as an articles editor for the Berkeley Journal of African American Law & Policy. During law school, Kiel was active in student-run academic support programs and provided tutoring for struggling law and undergraduate students. She has continued to provide tutoring and assistance to students taking the California bar exam since her graduation. Kiel received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles with College Honors.
Prior to joining USD Law School, Kiel worked as a real estate/environmental attorney in-house for a northern California municipal utility and as an associate at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles. She brings with her significant policy research, regulatory compliance, and transactional experience. She remains active in the ABA as the vice-chair of programs for the SEER Smart Growth & Green Building committee.
