Kiyana Kiel joined the University of San Diego in August of 2012 as the law school’s director of academic success. In her current role as director of academic success & bar programs, Kiel has primary responsibility for designing and implementing innovative academic success and bar exam materials, programs, and events. She also provides one-on-one and small group academic and bar exam counseling sessions. Kiel believes academic success and bar exam passage is within reach for "every law student," and strives to design programming for students at all levels of the academic continuum. In addition, Kiel is an adjunct professor of the law school and teaches Fundamentals of Bar Exam Writing each spring.
Kiel is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she served as an articles editor for the Berkeley Journal of African American Law & Policy. During law school, Kiel was active in student-run academic support programs and provided tutoring for struggling law and undergraduate students. She has continued to provide tutoring and assistance to students taking the California bar exam since her graduation. Kiel received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles with College Honors.
Prior to joining USD Law School, Kiel worked as a real estate, land use, and environmental in-house attorney for a northern California municipal utility and as an associate at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles. She brings with her significant policy research, regulatory compliance, and transactional experience.
