USD Law Student Nicholas Howe '16 (JD) Balances Law School and Olympic Training

San Diego (November 27, 2013) – On Tuesday, November 26, University of San Diego (USD) School of Law student Nick Howe, '16 (JD), was featured in an law student profile in the Daily Journal. Howe is a globally ranked javelin thrower and currently in his second year of USD's part-time JD degree program.

Howe won the California Collegiate Athletic Association title while attending the University of California (UC), San Diego as an undergraduate. He holds the UC San Diego record for javelin, was a three-time All-American, and a two-time national champion.

"I wake up early and read for class before heading to UC San Diego for the day." says Howe. "Weekends are the time when I catch up and try to get a head start on the next week's reading."

The article reports that Howe, now ranked fourth nationally and 34th in the world will have to clear two hurdles to qualify for the Olympics. He will first have to throw an Olympic A-standard, a distance set by International Association of Athletics Federations, and then place in the top three at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

"My goal now is to make it to the 2016 Olympic Games," says Howe "If things work out, I'll graduate from law school in the spring and head to Rio that summer."
