Grays Peak and Tommy Knocker Brewery
Join the Denver Chapter of the USD Alumni Association on our second annual fourteener hike. This year we will climb Grays Peak. We will hike in the morning and then eat a late lunch at Tommy Knocker Brewery in Idaho Springs at 1:30 p.m. Please feel free to bring family and friends along with you.
Grays Peak, located along the Continental Divide, is 14,270 ft and a great first 14er with mild exposure. The 8 mile hike will take approximately 6 hours to complete. Please come prepared with your own water, food and additional clothing for inclement weather. We will meet at the winter trailhead at the base of Forest Road 189 at 6:30 a.m. and carpool to the summer trailhead to begin the hike. The dirt road to the trailhead is rough and a high clearance vehicle and 4WD are recommended to reach the summer trailhead.
If you would like to carpool all the way from Denver with other hikers, carpools will be arranged leaving from the Dinosaur Parking Lots in Golden at 5:30 a.m. Please park in the "Wooly Mammoth Lot" located at 18560 US Hwy 40, Golden CO 80401.
The Director of Alumni Relations, Charles Bass will be attending this event from the University. It will be a great opportunity to hear what's happening on campus and to ask him any alumni questions you may have.
If you don't feel like hiking but would still like to meet with other USD alumni, we encourage you to join us for lunch after the hike at Tommy Knocker Brewery in Idaho Springs at 1:30 p.m.
