Judge Luis R. Vargas, '81 (JD), takes position at district attorney's office

Judge Luis R. VargasSan Diego (December 13, 2012) – San Diego Superior Court Judge Luis R. Vargas, '81 (JD), has accepted a position at the San Diego County District Attorney's office, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said yesterday.

Judge Vargas, who has been a judge for 20 years, will begin his new duties beginning January 2013 after he retires from the bench. He will provide the district attorney’s office expertise in several areas of the law, including civil litigation, appellate cases and cross-border issues.

Vargas obtained his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1981 and an undergraduate degree in economics from San Diego State University in 1978. He is most recently known for presiding over challenges to San Diego’s Proposition B, the pension reform initiative on the November 2012 ballot.
