USD Law Professor McAllister Named Environmental Law Scholar of the Week

Chapel Hill, N.C. (November 26, 2012) – Today the Center for Law, Environment, Adaptation & Resources (CLEAR) at the University of North Carolina named University of San Diego School of Law Stanley Legro Professor in Environmental Law Lesley McAllister Environmental Law Scholar of the Week.

CLEAR launched the Environmental Law Scholar of the Week in October 2012 to introduce or re-introduce important scholars who have contributed to the substantial body of academic work in environmental law. CLEAR examines the arc of each honoree’s scholarship, with particular focus and attention on specific pieces in a write-up about each week’s scholar.

McAllister is the sixth professor to be named to the prestigious list of scholars. Other scholars include Daniel A. Farber, Sho Sato Professor of Law, University of California, Berkeley School of Law; Professor Eileen Guana, University of New Mexico School of Law; Robert V. Percival, Robert F. Stanton Professor of Law, University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law; Richard J. Lazarus, Howard and Katherine Aibel Professor of Law, Harvard Law School; and Carol M. Rose, Gordon Bradford Tweedy Professor Emeritus of Law and Organization, Yale Law School.

About Lesley McAllister

Lesley McAllister is the Stanley Legro Professor in Environmental Law at the University of San Diego School of Law. She teaches and writes in the areas of environmental, natural resources, and energy law; comparative and international law; administrative law; and property law. McAllister’s current research focuses on innovative regulatory approaches in environmental and energy policy.

McAllister sits on the Board of Advisors of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center, and she is the faculty advisor to the San Diego Journal of Climate & Energy Law. She is a member scholar of the Center for Progressive Reform and a primary blog editor of the Environmental Law Prof Blog. She is also a member of the Law and Society Association; the Latin American Studies Association; the American Society of Comparative Law; the State Bar of California; and the American Bar Association (ABA). In the ABA, McAllister served as chair of the environmental law committee of the Section of State and Local Government Law and as liaison to the ABA’s Standing Committee on Environmental Law.

Before coming to USD, she was a recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency Graduate Star Fellowship, the National Science Foundation Law and Social Science Dissertation Grant, the Stanford Law School Public Service Fellowship, and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Fellowship.
