USD School of Law Receives Foundation and Federal Awards/Grants
San Diego (July 31, 2012) – The University of San Diego (USD) School of Law announced today annual external funding, contracts and grants awarded in 2012 from the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, the Paul Bechtner Foundation, SDG&E, the San Diego Foundation's Board of Governors, the California Center for Sustainable Energy, and the State Bar of California.
The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund awarded $10,000 to support a series of trial advocacy programs that can be included as part of a trial advocacy concentration in the LLM program and as a certificate program for other post-graduate and JD students.
Law Student Aid Scholarship received a $5,000 gift from the Paul Bechtner Foundation.
Scott Anders, Director of the Energy Policy Initiates Center (EPIC), received a second contract from SDG&E. The $60,000 contract extends EPIC’s involvement in the City of San Diego’s Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Plan (CMAP). The San Diego Foundation’s Board of Governors awarded the $45,000 Blasker Grant, also in support of EPIC, for a proposal by Anders and Rick Olson (“Greenhouse Gas Mitigation and Cost effectiveness Tool: A Standardized approach to Help Cities Develop Climate Action Plans”). EPIC has also been subcontracted by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) for $42,517 and will be the lead organization for a Southern California response to the Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative: Rooftop Solar Challenge.
USD Legal Clinics received $65,286 from the State Bar of California Legal Services Trust Fund Program, Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA). IOLTA continues to support USD's Legal Clinics, which provides free legal services to disadvantaged and underserved lower income San Diegans while training law students in the practical and ethical practice of law. This funding covers the costs of the Small Claims Clinic as well as interpreting and translating services to Spanish speaking clients.
