| Message | SAN DIEGO (June 4, 2012)—On May 31, the Legal Aid Society of San Diego held the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the San Diego Bar Center to honor volunteers and organizations for their contribution of legal services to the Pro Bono program in 2011-12. The University of San Diego (USD) School of Law received an Outstanding Service Award for providing volunteers who contributed more than 100 hours of volunteer time to the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. Accepting the award on behalf of USD School of Law was Assistant Dean for Career Services Cara Mitnick. “We’re proud to have so many of our students represented at this important recognition and awards event. USD School of Law has a long and storied history of assisting underserved community members who have legal issues, but are not able to afford legal services,” said Dean Mitnick. “The USD students who were honored by the Legal Aid Society of San Diego ably carry on that high tradition.” Several USD School of Law alumni and students were honored with the Wiley W. Manuel award. Each of the awardees contributed more than 50 hours of time to the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. Wiley W. Manuel award winners included: Stephen Britt ’11, Shelly Caterino ’11, Irene Chung ’12, Cassandra Krieger ’12, Thomas Lam ’12, Kathryn Farquhar ’13, Laura Hamister ’13, Stephanie Hoffmaister ’13, Kaitlyn Brum ’14, Alicia Ferong ’14, and Scott Syverson ’14. In addition, USD School of Law Assistant Director for Public Service and Diversity and President of La Raza Lawyers of San Diego Lizzette Herrera, accepted an Outstanding Volunteer Service Award on behalf of La Raza Lawyers of San Diego. |
