USD School of law Alumnus Gale Filter '89San Diego (August 12, 2011) – After a career chasing environmental criminals, USD School of Law's Gale Filter, '89 (JD), is settling into his new post atop one of the region's most prominent conservation groups, San Diego Coastkeeper.

Expect him to shake things up with a hard-charging style and new alliances to fill gaps left by shrinking regulatory agencies. His predecessor, Bruce Reznik, was big on policy and politics but Filter talks more about enforcing environmental laws and making sure agencies are doing their jobs.

A Chicago native—and diehard fan of the Chicago Bears—Filter went to law school at the University of San Diego before heading to Imperial County as a prosecutor and later leading environmental efforts for the California District Attorneys Association and helping to lead enforcement at the state Department of Toxic Substances Control.
