| Message | Former University of San Diego Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law W. Willard Wirtz passed away of natural causes on Saturday, April 24, 2010. He was 98 years old. During his time at USD, from 1986 to 1999, Professor Wirtz taught the advanced, upper-level seminar, Contemporary Labor Problems. The last surviving member of the Kennedy cabinet, Wirtz was appointed Secretary of Labor by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, the day after Kennedy nominated his predecessor, Arthur Goldberg, to the Supreme Court. He remained in this role for more than five years, serving President Lyndon B.
