| Message | SAN ANTONIO (February 17, 2010) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law LLM student teammates Henry Chen and Irina Goldberg edged out graduate law teams from across the country to take second place prize at the Ninth Annual American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation Law Student Tax Challenge, held January 23, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas. The competition is administered by the ABA Taxation Section’s Young Lawyers Forum and is designed to reflect everyday tax issues that might arise for practitioners. The Law Student Tax Challenge asks two-person, student teams to solve a complex business problem that might arise in everyday tax practice. To enter, teams from across the country research the tax issues and then submit technical memoranda and client letters with their solutions. Finalists are chosen from the best of these written submissions. Of the 26 LLM teams who submitted, only four were chosen to compete in the final competition, defending their submissions through oral arguments before a panel of distinguished tax lawyers attending the Section of Taxation’s Midyear Meeting. This year, the USD School of Law LLM team competed against LLM section finalists from Georgetown University Law Center, Temple University Beasley School of Law and University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. |
