Criminal Law Society (CLS): Proposition 34 Debate

This November, Proposition 34 is on the ballot, which would abolish the death penalty in California. In light of this, we are hosting a death penaly discussion and debate.

Professor Cotsirilos, who teaches Death Penaly Seminar and is a private defense attorney who has personally defended numerous death penalty cases, will argue the problems with the death penalty and why he supports Proposition 34. Bill Mitchell, a long-time Riverside and San Diego County District Attorney, will discuss why he thinks the death penalty is an appropriate punishment, but may be ineffective as currently set up in California.  At one point in his career, Mr. Mitchell had successfully prosecuted more defendants in Death Penalty cases than any other prosecutor in the state.

Both attorneys will be offering thier personal insights and experience regarding the death penalty in California, and will be available to answer questions from students.  We hope to see you for this exciting discussion.
