The University of San Diego School of Law, in partnership with Miller & Chevalier, invites you to attend the First Annual University of San Diego School of Law/Miller & Chevalier Tax Controversy Conference on Friday, September 28, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Techmart in Santa Clara, Calif.  This informative and comprehensive program will explore "Washington Approaches to Resolving Tax Controversies."  Sam Maruca, the first Internal Revenue Service director of transfer pricing operations, large business & international (LB&I) division, will deliver the keynote address. 

Maruca is responsible for developing and coordinating LB&I's overall transfer pricing strategy and providing direction on significant cases arising in examination, competent authority and the APA program. Additional topics of discussion will include tax issues on the legislative agenda, how and when to lobby tax rule writers and the IRS and Treasury, current IRS controversy priorities and structuring, the latest on controversy issues drawing national attention, how to handle refund claims and refund litigation as well as dealing with evidentiary issues in tax litigation.
