YogaLaw Society: Free Yoga

USD Legal Clinics: An Introduction to Charter Schools and the Laws that Govern Them

Journal of Climate & Energy Law (JCEL): Environmental & Energy Law Speaker

JCEL is proud to host Howard Susman, '79, a partner at Stoel Rives LLP. Susman will discuss the development of renewable energy projects and the role an attorney plays in that process. Academic Success Program: Necessary Relevance—Outlining for Law School Success

This workshop will teach you proper and efficient outlining. We will cover: 1) when to begin outlining and why you should not begin the first week of class and 2) what information to include/exclude from your outline. Sample outline excerpts will be provided. Women's Law Caucus: Annual Faculty Auction

Join WLC for its Annual Faculty Auction during the Dean's Mixer. All of the auction proceeds are donated to the USD Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), as well as various local organizations. USD is offering a full weekend of preparation for the July 2013 bar exam. This conference will help those taking any bar exam in the country. Information about sessions, times, meals, bar course discounts and prizes can be found on the registration website. Saturday, February 16 – Sunday, February 17

Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (VICAM): 6th Annual Michael Thorsnes International Arbitration Competition—1L and 2L Volunteers Needed

All day; Warren Hall.
USD will host nearly 20 teams from law schools across the U.S. and abroad. The tournament serves as an opportunity for these teams to hone their skills in preparation for the William C. Vis International Arbitration Moot competitions in Vienna, Austria and Hong Kong. Teams will present an oral argument on an international contract dispute. VICAM is looking for 1L and 2L volunteers to keep time during the rounds and act as runners to help the tournament run smoothly. This is a great opportunity to get exposure to oral argument practices as you prepare for your Legal Writing and Research oral arguments. If you are interested in volunteering, please email the USD VICAM team with your name and preferred shift (Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning).

San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA): Criminal Law Basics—From Arrest to Sentencing

Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and Diversity Committee (DivCom): Order in the Court—Practical Tips from Distinguished Judges

BLSA and DivCom invite all USD law students to attend their annual judicial panel. A panel of three local judges will discuss courtroom etiquette and share their perspectives on things to avoid in written work submitted to a court. USD School of Law Annual Judicial Reception

The Annual Judicial Reception recognizes our alumni and other members of the San Diego Bench. It also offers a unique opportunity for students to interact with our local judiciary in an informal setting. There will be hosted hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Tryout for the 2013 Inter-American Moot Court Competition (Open to all 2L and 3L students)

RSVP by February 11.  Tryout dates: February 12-14.
All 2L and 3L students are invited to tryout for the 2013 Inter-American Moot Court Competition.  Two students will win a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent USD at this year's competition.  The tryout will consist of writing a 1-3 page argument based on a fact pattern that will be provided once students RSVP.  This is a great opportunity for students interested in written and oral advocacy.  Contact: President of International Law Society (ILS) Austin Berger if you are interested. 

Save the Date: Paul A. McLennon, Sr. Moot Court Tournament Final Round and Reception

Wednesday, February 27; 5:00-7:00 p.m.; Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Theatre.
All students are invited to watch the two finalists for the McLennon Moot Court Tournament test their oral advocacy skills in front of a panel of distinguished judges. This is an especially wonderful opportunity for 1Ls to observe an oral argument in preparation for their own Legal Writing and Research oral argument. A reception will follow the final argument. Paul A. McLennon, Sr. Moot Court Tournament: Volunteer Bailiffs Needed

Tournament Dates: February 18-23.
All 1Ls are invited to serve as bailiffs for the McLennon Moot Court Tournament. Bailiffs are in charge of keeping time during oral arguments and assisting the judges in the courtroom. This is a great opportunity to learn about appellate advocacy and network with local practicing attorneys. It also reflects well on your application to serve on next year's USD Moot Court Associate Board. Sign-ups will be available on the McLennon TWEN page. Lawyers Club: Third Annual Interviewing Seminar

Lawyers Club is hosting a fantastic event aimed to hone your interviewing skills. Attorneys and judges from the community will ask you interview questions and give you immediate feedback on your answers. A small networking reception will follow. Advocates for Children & Education (ACE): Volunteer Opportunity

ACE is partnering with the Escondido Youth Court to provide training to teenage lawyers. The Escondido Youth Court is a fantastic diversion program for first-time misdemeanor offenders, and we are volunteering to help train youth who are acting as "lawyers" in the youth court. San Diego County High School Mock Trial Competition: Volunteers Needed

Tournament Dates: February 26, 28, and March 2.
The San Diego County High School Mock Trial Competition needs law student volunteers to assist with tournament logistics. This is a great opportunity to meet local judges and attorneys and to observe talented high school students compete in a mock trial. Volunteers will assist with courtroom management and general bailiff duties. Please email Assistant Director for JD Advocacy Programs Haley Shumaker if you are interested.

Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC): 12th Annual Black & White Ball—Volunteers Needed

Saturday, March 2; Manchester Grand Hyatt One Market Place, San Diego, CA 92101.
The San Diego Chapter of the ACC is looking for volunteers for its 12th Annual Black & White Ball. This year's event and auction will fundraise for Girls on the Run of San Diego. ACC needs volunteers throughout the day to set up auction items and to assist with the registration area. More than 700 attorneys attend the ball and it is a great opportunity for students to network and build legal connections. Legal Research Center (LRC): February Highlights

The LRC is highlighting the Women's Law Caucus for the month of February. Please view the February highlight flyer on our student materials page. We have also have two online database updates: 1) trainings are coming for the new Bloomberg Law database and 2) Westlaw ceases its printing capability in June 2013. San Diego Opera: Discounted Student Tickets

The San Diego Opera's Student Ticket Initiative gives full-time students the opportunity to attend world-class main-stage opera productions at a discounted rate. Currently, the San Diego Opera is offering a student subscription package to three performances for only $50 each. Visit the website to purchase your tickets. Financial Aid Office: Available Outside Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Financial Aid Office receives announcements from the legal community with scholarship opportunities. Check out the Outside Scholarships web page for a listing of these scholarships. Example of scholarships available include: USD Alumni & Class Legacy ScholarshipsNational Italian American Foundation Scholarship, and ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship. Many of the scholarship deadlines are coming up, so apply now.

Financial Aid Office: FAFSA Application

Attention all non-graduating students: The FAFSA application for the 2013-14 academic year is now available. The priority filing deadline is March 2, 2013. If you plan on applying for student loans and/or work study, be sure to not miss the deadline. The FAFSA application is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at (619) 260-4570 or stop by Warren Hall Room 203.
