| Abstract | The needs of a spouse for post-divorce support are determined, in significant part, against the standard of living of the spouses during the marriage.1 Accordingly, the California Family Code imposes on divorce courts the sua sponte obligation to make specific factual findings with respect to the marital standard of living.2 Findings on marital standard of living provide the “basis or reference point for determining need and support.” This article discusses the modification of the original award and the role of the attorney in spousal support awards. |
