| Abstract | Close observation of how infants react from birth to the affectionate communications of those who care for them, how they enter into emotionally regulated mutually satisfying conversation-like interactions, how they negotiate games that repeatedly test subtleties of timing and emotion, leads us to the hypothesis that the innate motives of human consciousness are designed for transactions of meaning. |
