Kristin Rizzo ’06 to Receive the Judge David R. Thompson New Lawyer Award

Law Alumni Board Member and 2011 Rising Star Recent Alumni Award Recipient Kristin Rizzo, ’06 will be honored at the 28th Annual Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers' Dinner with the Judge David R. Thompson New Lawyer Award on Friday, August 10, at the U.S. Grant. The dinner supports the charitable works of Father Joe’s Villages and celebrates integrity and professionalism in the legal community. Proceeds have been used to help over 10,000 homeless children in San Diego.

Kristin Rizzo is an attorney and the principal of The Rizzo Law Firm. Before launching her own practice in 2011, Kristin was an associate at the esteemed law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack. Now, in solo practice, Kristin handles a variety of complex matters in the area of civil litigation, dedicating the majority of her time to the representation of consumers and employees in employment and business matters. In the first year in solo practice, Kristin has successfully litigated on behalf of her clients, obtaining over half a million dollars in awards and settlements.

In addition to running a successful law practice, Kristin is a Bar leader and an active participant in the legal community. She has served as a director on the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Bar Association’s New Lawyer Division and chaired the Continuing Legal Education Committee, developing the “Civil Litigation 101” six-part series. In 2010, Kristin was elected as president to the division where she also held a director position on the Board of the San Diego County Bar Association, and created the “Mentoring Circles” program. She is an active committee member for many lawyer groups, including the Enright Inn of Court and the San Diego County Bar Association. Kristin has taught the USD School of Law’s Civil Practicum course on the “Real Life of Lawyers,” and she has been a frequent lecturer in the community for USD, Thomas Jefferson School of Law and the San Diego County Public Law Library.

In recognition of her significant service to the legal community, Kristin received the San Diego County Bar Association’s “Bar Stars” award in 2009 and 2010. She has been honored twice by the San Diego legal community as a recipient of the 2009 and 2011 San Diego Daily Transcript’s “Young Attorneys” award, which annually recognizes the area’s most promising young associates. In 2011, Ms. Rizzo was honored by USD School of Law as one of two recipients of the “Rising Star” Recent Alumni awards for her significant work in the legal community.
