USD Law Alumni Named Among the 2012 CLAY Award Winners

California Lawyer magazine has named three USD law alumni the 2012 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Awards—Randall J. Baron, '90, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd; Theodore J. Boutrous, Jr., '87, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher; and Gene J. Stonebarger, '00, Stonbargger Law Firm. Award receptients are recognized for thier significant achievements, making a profound impact in the law. Honorees include government attorneys, public-interest lawyers, sole practitioners and attorneys from large international firms.

Randall BaronRandall J. Baron specializes in securities litigation, corporate takeover litigation and breach of fiduciary duty actions. For more than a decade, Baron has headed up a team of lawyers who have been instrumental in shaping merger and acquisition, breach of fiduciary duty litigation throughout the country. By focusing on an in-depth understanding of merger and acquisition and breach of fiduciary duty law, an ability to work under extreme time pressures, and the experience and willingness to take a case through trial, Baron has been responsible for obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars in additional consideration for shareholders.

Theodore J. Butros Theodore J. Boutrous, Jr. a partner in the Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. offices of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, is co-chair of the firm’s appellate and constitutional law group, its media and entertainment group, the crisis management group, and the transnational litigation and foreign judgments group.  He is a member of the firm’s executive and management committees.

Gene Stonebarger Gene J. Stonebarger is the founder of Stonebarger Law. He currently serves as lead counsel for plaintiff and the putative class in the seminal privacy rights case titled Pineda v. Williams-Sonoma Stores, Inc., (2011) 51 Cal.4th 524, wherein the California Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision in favor of plaintiff and appellant protecting the privacy rights of California consumers, reversing the decisions of the two lower courts and remanding the case for further proceedings.
