Michelle Mezher (Chemistry ’12) will be starting her second year in graduate school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she is pursuing a PhD in chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Clemens Heske, a surface scientist. She has had some great experiences already in her first year: she’s had the opportunity to run experiments at the Advanced Light Source at Berkeley, she gave a talk on her work at the Materials Research Conference last spring, and she was recently awarded funding to travel to Germany to complete experiments on a collaborative project. She’s also looking forward to teaching physical chemistry lab this fall at UNLV. She is excited that her work in surface science has potential implications in renewable energies—in her own words: “I love the aspect that I can keep working with renewable energies and possibly make a difference one day."
