U-T San Diego -- Matthew Early enlisted in the Navy in 1999 when he was just 19 years old.
Now 32, Early has served two combat deployments in Iraq as a corpsman during his nearly 14 years of service. Now, he’s taking the next step in his military career.
Early was one of 47 members of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps to be commissioned Friday afternoon at the University of San Diego. The newly coined ensign was selected for the Seaman to Admiral commissioning program in November 2009, and he recently graduated the University of California San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in human biology.
